Relapse-Remitting MS May Soon Be Treated Using a Promising HDIT/HCT Method

The medical field was met by new findings in February 2017. The research trials showed that high dosage of immunosuppressive therapy coupled with a transplant of individual’s blood-forming stem cells could cause relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS). This autoimmune disease is harmful to the human health as it triggers the immune system to attack the central nervous system.

The findings suggest that 69% of the trial patients who received the high dosage of immunosuppressive therapy and autologous hematopoietic transplant (HDIT/HCT) survived without showing any signs relapse, disability or brain lesions. These patients under trials did not take any MS medication. Other research findings suggest that the available MS drugs have a reduced success rate.

These results form the foundation for future research to proof the current suggestion that HDIT/HCT treatment can be more efficient for the treatment of MS patients than the long term use of available MS medications. The most notable symptoms of MS include weakness, fatigue, chronic pain, and speech difficulties with Relapsing-remitting MS being the most common form.

The research, HALT-MS, which was funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was conducted using a sample of 24 individuals with relapsing-remitting MS aged between 26 and 52 years. From the findings, HDIT/HCT medication is enough to treat MS patients. However, further research is required to evaluate the risks and benefits of HDIT/HCT.

Next would be the maximum period for payment of benefits. This can vary from 3 months to 12 months. Once all this has been chosen with care, it will lead to the monthly EMI being calculated. The Silence Around Hearing Loss

Before headphones and earbuds, music lovers would have to share their love of music with the rest of the world. There was a huge market for flashy radios and boom boxes. It was almost customary for every house to have one. In the last few decades, the need for these bulky radios has gone obsolete. Earbuds and headphones give music lovers a more personal experience and give artists the ability to connect with the listener like never before. Recent data shows that the constant use of earbuds and headphones can lead to hearing loss or impairment. Teenagers and young adults are more at risk for hearing loss now more than ever. The rate at which young adult hearing loss is occurring has jumped an astonishing 30% in the last 25 years. Researchers attribute this information to the constant use that earbuds are being used at. Listening to music at a certain volume, for an extended amount of time, can cause some temporary impairment.

What the researchers are more concerned with, is the more permanent damage that won’t be seen until later in life. Ricardo Tosto is a little worried as well. The best way to combat the extended rate of hearing loss in young adults is to educate them. Developers advise people to listen to music at no more than 60 percent of the overall master volume. Even then, the headphones or earbuds should only be inserted in the ear for no more than 60 minutes at a time. The future for hearing in young adults is at a fork in the road. If scientists behind the hearing study can reach the younger generation and warn them of their practices, the future of their quality of hearing could be saved.

Marsh Bacteria Shows Mysterious Properties

Bacteria can be odd things, but they are interesting to learn from, especially when it comes to structure and survival. A newly discovered saltwater marsh bacteria, Thiovulum majus, is baffling researchers with every look at their structure and formation because it is not similar to any known bacteria.

According to Amen Clinics ( the bacteria is spherical in shape, but rather large, and exist in colonies to aid in survival. They gain oxygen from their low oxygen environment by forming a network of veins that is able to pass more water through each cell as a group than they would be able to do individually. The other interesting feature noted about this new bacteria is that they have microscopic flagella all over their surface that aids in locomotion, making them faster than any other known bacteria, but more importantly these flagella form hydrostatic bonds to create two dimensional crystals. Each crystal is a living entity, working together to support each and every cell.

The hydrostatic bonds that are holding these crystal structures together are very similar to the electromagnetic forces we see in traditional crystal structures, holding them together. In further studying the formation of these crystals, researchers were interested to find that they came together by spinning themselves up to ten times per second until they encountered another bacteria and coupled. This self organizing technique used by a bacteria in order to increase the amount of nutrients it can gain is a first among bacteria.
